The goal of the Branciforte Middle School Sports Field project was to create a sports complex that met the needs of the site as well as the local soccer community. The program included three soccer fields, a softball field, a life lab garden, and a meandering running track complete with four fitness stations. The design also renovated a portion of existing turf, where two more soccer fields were located. A priority was placed on the reduction of maintenance requirements, and the durability of materials. As the lead consultant on the project, SSA managed and coordinated all work of the geotechnical, structural and civil engineers, and also ushered the project through the Division of the State Architect and the City of Santa Cruz Public Works and Water Departments for approval.
