Red Morton Park is the largest programmed park in the City of Redwood City with athletic fields, tennis courts, play areas, recreational buildings, picnic areas, passive open spaces, bocce courts, a skate park, and walking trails. In collaboration with the City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, SSA recently completed the master plan for programmatic, circulation, parking, entrances, signage, and spectating improvements at the park. This process included several community workshops, extensive site analysis with City staff, and involved a design team including civil, structural, traffic, and electrical engineers.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony was held in November of 2017, and we have now moved into Phase One, which includes the parking lot, playground, picnic, and spectator areas.
The project is receiving funding from the Magical Bridge Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to create all inclusive playgrounds. This manifests into many creative play spaces that far exceed the Americans with Disabilities Act or universal playground requirements. Magical Bridge playgrounds intend to serve children and adults alike with any type of disability, including physical, visual, cognitive, or social.
We are excited to be a part of bringing this great new playground to the community of Redwood City.
