The children’s play amenity area was designed for Discovery Land Company’s Makena Golf & Beach Club (MGBC) project. MGBC is a private luxury community located in south Maui. The project is adjacent to Maluaka Beach Park and stretches to Mauka encompassing approximately 1,800 acres. The project has many amenity areas focused on golf, ocean sports, dining, and various other activities primarily geared for adult members.
SSA was hired to conceptualize transforming underutilized tennis and basketball courts to create an inviting and engaging multipurpose play area for both kids and parents. MGBC wanted the area to include multiple different play activities for children of various ages and abilities. SSA was also tasked with aligning the play area with cultural themes, stories, and games that paid homage to the rich history of the area. Additionally, SSA was asked to include an area for adults to enjoy and relax while their children played. SSA created a beautiful conceptual design with seamless transitions from one activity to another along with a kitchen, bar, and seating area for adults. Although the conceptual plan was completed, construction was put on hold to a future date.
