McClellan Ranch Preserve is a popular natural reserve located along Stevens Creek in Cupertino, California. SSA led the design team in constructing an overflow parking lot for the preserve’s many visitors that matched the environmentally sensitive nature of the site. Features of this approximately ¾ acre project include a pervious parking lot sufficient for 27 cars; log wheel stops; dry stacked stone walls intended to be natural in form; native restoration plant material intermixed with stone boulders along Stevens Creek; low-flow irrigation; GraniteCrete walkways; low level site lighting; and picket fencing along the parking lot perimeter.
The project was designed with a natural aesthetic intending to be cohesive with the adjacent preserve and neighboring Blackberry Farm. Protection and monitoring of riparian habitat adjacent to Stevens Creek were essential aspects to the design and construction phases of work. This project was completed in summer 2019.
